WTB: Retarding valve p/n 11631711519

Post by Vman »

I'm looking for a retarding valve (part 11631711519) that goes on the vacuum line to the Thermovalve / purge valve. If anyone has one, please DM me. Thanks! Looks like this: https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-3689 ... zEPf6M4nHw

It's just a 8mm vacuum check valve. Any auto parts store should have it, or 100s of places online.
I don't think its a critical component, I'm not running one on my car, bet others aren't also.

FYI My 1993 Volvo 245 runs with the exact same plastic B&W valve coming out from the plenum since new. So I’d do what kojo suggests, try to get it from any auto store (maybe will not be available under any BMW reference part number) but most likely you can find it. Let us know when you do.

Do you have symptoms for this?

I replaced my vacuum lines, and couldn't remember which way it was installed and it never affected my drivability regardless of its direction. I ended up getting it right after looking around at pics, but i thought it was interested that it didnt change anything when it was installed incorrectly.

Interesting and good to know! My car doesn't have one at all so I'm not sure if it would affect drivability if I install one.

Doesn't this valve act as a check valve only allowing the suction of the charcoal vapor canister once the thermovalve reaches temperature?  If the valve is backwards the valve is open and allows flow opposite of the suction of the manifold, i.e. it doesn't change any flow. On a forced induction motor it would leak intake into the thermovalve and then the charcoal filter.

In normal operation the thermovalve is closed the manifold can't suck through the valve and when open it can suck through the check valve.  But when backwards it can't suck through the valve and there would be a buildup of vapors in the recovery tank.

So it isn't really gonna have much effect on running operations.

Thanks for thinking through all of that… I agree, doesn't seem really necessary.
