Style 5 vs Style 29 16”
Style 5 vs Style 29 16”
I plan on sourcing an m-tech (m5/535is) front valance, Decklid spoiler, m-tech 1 steering wheel and oem 16” wheels. Can any one share some pics of style 5 16” and style 29 16” on their rides? Any other info would be great if anyone has it, such as weight per wheel.

If you do a search on 'BMW wheel styles' there are several websites that have specs on most BMW wheels, I listed a few below. Unfortunately they don't necessarily have weights for all versions, but they're still a worthwhile resource to salt away for future reference.

Thank you everyone for the replies. Exactly the pics and info I was looking for. As well as the websights for future reference.
Im relatively new to E28’s so forgive my ignorance. There is a plethora of knowledgeable info and helpful folks here. I appreciate it.

Re: Style 5 vs Style 29 16”
Nice list. Looks like the wheels on the pair I now have of E39s have pretty much the heaviest wheels. The 42s on my recently acquired 530i at 9.7Kg, and the Daisy/Star Spoke on my wife's touring weighing in at a mere 11.89KG. What's worse is I don't even like the Daisys, but my wife does, and did not like style 5's, and it's her car.tschultz wrote: Nov 12, 2024 5:21 PM Style 29 is slightly lighter weight than rz469 style 5.

Whining time. When we bought this 525ita, it was to replace a 528ita. With almost brand new tires on the modular style 5's. Which she never really liked. So we kept the Daisy wheels with bad tires.
Re: Style 5 vs Style 29 16”
I found a set of Style 5’s in pristine condition. They are 16” and came off a 1997 740i. Is the off set the same regardless of which car these are from? Will these fit my E28 with no issues?
Re: Style 5 vs Style 29 16”
That there car with those Style 29s is FAYAH.
I'm fascinated by Style 29s. The day the last E28 came out of the production line, Style 29s did not exist as metal wheels on production cars (perhaps they did in someone's sketch or design pad or "for future use" files). I always wonder who was the first person to even try installing Style 29s on an E28. But, look at that car in that picture and try to convince me that it's not GORGEOUS.
Re: Style 5 vs Style 29 16”
The issue I always find with E38 Style 5s (one of the most popular swaps into E28s) is that the E38 wheels are 8" wide, and the widest wheels available for production e28s were 7.5" (for the M5). E38 Style 5s always, always, always look "OK... but" - and the "but" is precisely that, they are too wide. 8" wheels are nothing on an E38, have you seen one of those? E28s look like dainty little cars next to E38s.328dabi wrote: Dec 19, 2024 11:44 AM I found a set of Style 5’s in pristine condition. They are 16” and came off a 1997 740i. Re: Style 5 vs Style 29 16”
They are perfection. As if made for the car and look so period correct. I keep going back and fourth between 5’ and 29’s. I love both.Foonfer wrote: Dec 19, 2024 11:15 PMThat there car with those Style 29s is FAYAH.

Ty for the insight btw.

Are the M5 wheels the only 16X7.5 style 5 available? Based on availability I may end up just springing for a pair of style 29’s as all the 16” style 5’s I’ve been finding are 16X8 and came off an E38.

Not sure about availability in the US, but E39 in Europe also had Styling 5 available. You can get them for around 400-800€ here in Germany
Although they're only 7J, they look crisp imo.

I’m content with 7”. Those look great. I’ll keep them in mind and see if I find any in my searches. Thank you for the info and the pic.

What tyres are on those? I’ve got the e39 7” style 5’s and looking for tyre size that’ll fit my e28

I drive 205/55/16 - that's how I got them approved by the German TÜV in combination with a KAW lowering kit (45 / 40).
On the E39 they are driven with 225/60/16 as default - but that didn't just look like shit, it also wouldn't have fitted in the wheel arch (the Edition I drive apparently has a slightly wider rear axle than the earlier models, but not sure about that)
I don't know what the regulations are like in the Netherlands, but here in Germany the biggest problem is the speedometer deviation, which has to match the original tires. The rolling circumference of the original tires may therefore only be -2.5% or +1.5%

Re: Style 5 vs Style 29 16”
[sub]so I found another set of style 5’s. They are 16X8 et23. However they were mounted on an E39. Looking at the pictures of the wheels they don’t appear to have been rebored at all. I know e39’s have a different (larger) bore size. It’s unlikely someone would mount e38 style 5’s and spend the money to rebore the wheels to fit. So my question is, does anyone know if the e39 ever had a 16X8 style 5 et23? If not, how else would one mount these wheels on the larger bore?
The gentleman is giving me a phenomenal deal on the set. But I’m skeptical.
any input is most welcome. [/sub]

Thanks for the info! I'll look into 205/55 R16's then!

Measuring with a caliper would be easiest and fastest
AFAIK the e38 and the e28 have the same bore (72.5mm), only the e39 has the larger one of 74.1mm - that's why I drive my e39 rims with adapters (plastic, didn't cost 10€).
So yes, if those came from an e38 he mustve rebored them.
Not sure about the widths, my e39s were 7"
