Hi All,
I recently purchased a red-tagged steering box sourced from an e24 M6 to put in my 87 535i. This is real deal with the 2225 120.0 red tag.
As my mechanic prepped the box for installation he checked the steering ratio: 3.5 lock-to-lock, exactly the same as the stock 535i. It's supposed to be 3 turns lock-to-lock.
Per the recommendation of a forum member the swing length of the pitman arm was measured and compared. Exactly the same. So the lock to lock uninstalled measurement is the true ratio.
Does anyone know what's going on? Were there M cars with 3.5 turn steering ratios?
Thanks.

Re: M5/M6 Steering box
I have a 10-84 M635csi that is 3.5 turns lock to lock.
So yes there are M cars with 3.5

That's helpful, thank you.
Does your car's steering box have the red tag with 2225 120.0?
