What did you do to your E28 today?
Replaced all front end parts on my ///M with the FCP Groton 10 piece kit.
I don't know if it's the beer tonight or what but everything is cracking me up.swatterssr wrote:Replaced all front end parts on my ///M with the FCP Groton 10 piece kit.
Nothin, it needs plenty though. Been replacing brakes on my Jeep, Grand Wag., 2 hardlines, led to buying a new rear wheel cyl, that led to brake shooes, which led to a hardware kit. I also bought a used pair of BFG ATs for the back . I reeeally hate drum brakes. The Jeep has pretty much Chevy brake hardware, so parts are readily available and too cheap to struggle with the old stuff. I have a cheap but serviceable set of brake tools from bugs.
It was just a process of relearning stuff I last learned 5 yrs ago. I hate drum brakes. Buncha widgets built as cheap as possible. The under side of the rig is scaling rust and when I pound on body panels down low, beach sand trickles out. . Amazingly, there is very little actually missing. though. I renewed the registration Friday, So far, this has cost me almost 3 hunnerd and fitty bucks for parts and paperwork. The end is nowhere in sight, I may rack up 500 miles on her and she requires more TLC than the 2 Super es combined. But , she is a great beach buggy, tow capable to 5k lbs, stuff hauler, great in snow, funky old beast. I'm giving her one last touch up before the inevitable crusher.
The remnants of the head liner are gonna get removed . If I take off the roof rack, I will paint the roof white. The AC has already been deleted. Its a beast, but so far, its main problem is that it sits for weeks at a time.

Reflowed the solder joints in my instrument cluster yet again. I've lost count how many times I've done this, but it seemed to work. We'll see how long it lasts this time.
When I reassembled it, I used the blue plug with two wires instead of the blue plug with one wire. (This is the wire that plugs into the back of the speedometer.) I'm hoping the cruise control will stop lurching and shutting down.

Wednesday I replaced the center consoles with better looking ones. I also installed my euro analog clock. I also reqired the radio to make the memory work right.
Saturday I replaced the tach with a green strip euro tach with no MPG gauge. Still not working. But I installed the mising foglights 2 weeks ago and finally got the bulbs to make them work! Whoo hoo!

I'm going to consolidate a few days in to this post.
Thursday,
Removed old smelly water logged carpet.
Friday,
Dried the floors out. Filled and sealed all holes in the floors. Removed all dreary stained tan interior pieces.
Saturday,
Replaced interior with used good condition black carpet, black center console door cards, and rear seats.
(((I still need a black glove box and driver under panel for a early e28))) hint hint wink wink
Repaired broken gas pedal.
replaced cruise control and wiper controls on column.
Replaces cap and rotor.
Installed an electric "pusher" cooling fan for those hot idling summer traffic days.
Replaced saggy sloppy vent on dash.
Fixed "toyota style" throttle cable that liked to stick around 3000 rpm.
The best part is I got all the parts except the cooling fan from a couple parts cars I purchased! It's almost free! The parts car practically pays for itself when compared to the cost of new parts.

Try "gauge" next time, instead of " g u a g e", which auto corrects to gooahj.Cheesy wrote:GDI! I went to edit my post before the spelling police got me and gooahj is spelled correctly!swatterssr wrote:Cheesy wrote: coolant temp gooahj, mpg gooahj
Not my fault!!!!!
I'm doomed
Edit: It did it again!
Spell check will help too!
