I like the sound of the advice/help thing, but what exactly do you mean?scott@mortgagecenteronlin wrote:Not sure where this project is located, but isn't it possible to offer some local advice/help for this fantastic cause?
Also, is it just me, or does anyone else think that those rims could finance the entire project?
I'm just thinking there's a ton of E28 knowledge here, so someone nearby you may be interested in sharing some E28-specific knowledge about strengths and weaknesses of various components/chassis, suspension/etc.sbeckman7 wrote:I like the sound of the advice/help thing, but what exactly do you mean?scott@mortgagecenteronlin wrote:Not sure where this project is located, but isn't it possible to offer some local advice/help for this fantastic cause?

And I agree, those rims would look incredible on a race car. I'm just jealous I don;t have them on the soon-t-be-mine 535IS.

I've begun to take apart the interior. I'm keeping everything intact (minus a few trim pieces) and all the wires connected until i can label them with tape. So far it's going well, but I can tell its going to be hell getting all the wires out of the car. Here's a picture of the damage I have managed to cause so far.
When you get discouraged, read this thread.

Wow! Thanks guys, the support is great. Most people give me a wierd look when I tell them what I am in the process of doing. The interior is now a sea of wires and the gauge cluster, steering wheel, dash, glovebox, and trim are all things of the past. I'll post pics tomorrow. The labeling process is going really well. Just one problem: I need to plug in a battery to move the seats back so I can unbolt them, unless there is another way.

Check to make sure you have not caused any short circuits (use and ohm meter across the battery leads with no battery installed.) If the resistance is greater than a few ohms, you are good to go to plug in a battery. Unless you have unplugged too much stuff the seats should move (though you may need to have the driver's door open- I forget and I don't have the wiring diagram in front of me.)sbeckman7 wrote:I haven't cut any wires, but the dash is gone. Wouldn't it be ok to just plug the battery in from my e34 though?
Ok, Ill let you know when I plan on removing the seats. Gonna start preparing the engine to be pulled today (get to pull it tomorrow!). Here's finally the picture of the interior to get the idea where I am currently (I've had a couple late nights on it but it's been really fun), and I will keep you guys updated.
Quick update: So I had the car towed up to the community college last Wednesday, where it will be sitting for another week or so. Jumped out of bed suspiciously early Saturday morning to work on the car for about ten hours. I was able to get a lot of work done: Pulled the exhaust (had to use a sawzall... easy way out...), removed the driveshaft (correctly), drained all the oil and coolant, removed the radiator, disconnected all heater hoses, etc, finally got the motronic plug through the firewall, removed a/c and power steering from block (won't be using either of them), and gave the back seat to my friend to use as a couch! If anyone needs anything at all, let me know. What I'm not using, I would be happy to donate to another e28 in need.

Some stuff for sale. Nothing has been cleaned yet but I plan on removing the dirt and grease before sale. The side skirts and both bumpers are genuine BBS. The rear bumper is in excellent condition, but the front is more battle-scarred (guess thats what happens with those eibach springs! ) . I was thinking about removing the remaining air dam and smoothing down the edge, which could make it look pretty good. The side skirts are in fine shape. One is a little out of wack with that hole that was due to a screw attaching it to the car, but some filler and sanding would take care of it.
What got accomplished Saturday:
Also found to my extreme delight its got a Getrag 265 and a 3.25 LSD!!!!

Here's a quick price list
Front Air Dam: 175
Side Skirts (Pair): 225
Rear Bumper: 250
Zender Rear Spoiler: 150
Whole Package: 700
Also, dont know if anyone needs the stock sway bars or springs, but I have both complete sets. Body Panels? The front and rear quarter panels are in good shape as well as the passenger side doors. Just trying to get rid of as much stuff as possible before the car gets crushed.

You might get that for the BBS parts, the Zender spoiler should be around 150. A brand new in box Zender spoiler went for $260 in this thread http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=76 ... zender+box
Nanajoth, thanks for the price correction. This is my first time parting out a car, let alone selling parts, so any honest feedback is greatly appreciated. The main goal is to raise money for the project and to give other e28's more life.
Update: Got the engine and transmission out today! Worked from 11-5 and with the help of two friends, managed to take out the getrag, bell housing, and then engine all in a couple hours. The engine hoist was less than ideal because it was electric, giving jerky and sometimes unpredictable motions, but in the end it all came out and nothing was damaged. This has been one of the greatest days I've had!
