I know what you mean. I quickly filled the barn with four letter words and scattered tools around a bit until I went inside and calmed down with a cool cool Newcastle Brown Ale.
Went back out about and hour later and threw another quality Hollen rage when I couldn't find the shit I'd thrown around the barn.

Once again, into the breach!
I thoroughly embarrassed the wife by taking apart the console in the parking lot where she works. The AT shifter cable had broken on Monday afternoon, and I was told it would be in by Wednesday, Then Thursday. .
They called me and said it would be in Thursday. I take apart the console, try to toss out the two something decades of debris, pull out the old cable and goto the autoparts store.
EVEN THO I had printed the picture and part number, even tho we had picked it out of inventory on his POS screen, that wasn't it. They had received their weekly shipment, and in the box was some Holley, etc shifter and accelerator cables. He says: "why not make one of these fit?"
Oh, BTW, I am now #5 on the list for the two in stock- there may be more in a month. Please check in occasionally.
So, Bavauto got my order last night.
I need to move the car. I need to get the wife in the proper mood. Too nice and she'll worry too much about using the parking brake and foot brake to keep the car from moving when I'm under it to shift it. Not nice enough and she won't use the brakes at all. Bump bump. Whoopsy!

Drove the snot out of it! First time it's been out like this since my ownership. Still have to replace clutch mc, rod pulls all the way out of cylinder, pedal is about 4 inches higher than brake pedal, yet it still works? Also prepped the "new" drivers door in hopes to swap it this weekend. Took out old wires, and sprayed the door jambs and inside window frame black! I still have passenger door to do also. Soon though, I will have rust free doors! (well the front doors at least)

Put the refinished Hartge's back on, cleaned out the ICV in the hope that the loping idle would be corrected, but it's still fucked.. Once my wideband arrives this week, it'll be onto tuning the WAR chip, as the current tune is a fair bit off, and I have a sneaking suspicion the AFR's are out on idle and WOT, so hopefully I can get some resolution to the drive-ability issue it's got.

Swapped out the drivers door! Went very well, gaps look great, body lines look straight. Now I just have to figure out why my rubber door seal won't fit now (too long? See my post in tech) Other than that, I think I can do the passenger door in 1/2 the time! Thanks to all and thanks to the search function!

Drove it significantly for the first time in.....ever.
Took the family to the river, 4 kids packed in the back seat. A little over 100 miles on some great twisty roads.
Reminded me that I really love this car, even for the short time that I've owned it, and I need to get off my butt and continue to work on it to make it my daily driver.
An alpine white e46 328i for sale locally had caught my eye this week. My wife drives a 325Ci and we absolutely love it, but I think I'm gonna stick with the e28 for now....

Replaced my radiator (with one from the wrecker), a bunch of coolant hoses, CTS, thermostat, low speed aux fan switch, connectors for CTS and thermo time as I managed to break them trying to take them off.
Man the CTS was a pain to remove!
Also, looks like the wrecker rad might be leaking, but more driving is necessary as I was to be sure.
Oh! That extraneous sensor I had in the throttlebody coolant line was a switch 65/70C. Thankfully that was one of the lines I had to replace.

Figured out why my son couldn't start it earlier (loose lead on the hacked-in starter button in the dash), fired it up, then drove it 40' forward of where it was & parked it for the night. Gonna have to tidy up that wiring one of these days; I think it's about 15 lines down on the to-do list for that car.
My wallet hurts, tools are dirty, but my car is happy!
Over a few days time, I finally completed my to do list on my recently purchased //M5 and brought mostly back to its original or at least functional glory. I used factory parts unless noted otherwise.
1) Brake flush including clutch hyd. system.
2) Oil/filter change with VR1.
3) Trans fluid change with Redline MT-90.
4) Diff fluid change with Redline GL4.
5) Valve adjustment, inspected guides, chain, installed S50/52 tensioner, verified presence of A100 cam gear, new V/C gasket.
6) Replaced dist. cap, rotor, wires, and plugs.
7) Checked function of and set throttle switch.
8) Replaced air filter, fuel filter, clamps and all rubber fuel hoses
9) Cleaned idle valve and replaced hoses to and from it as well as hose from V/C to intake plenum.
10) Replaced exhaust hangers and gaskets
11) Replaced engine and trans mounts
12)Replaced shift shaft seal, shift linkage and lever, rubber boot, flex disc, nuts.
13) Replaced right lower control arm, tie rods, center link, idler arm and nuts. also checked subframe/steering box mount bracket-found through-bolt/fat washer retrofitted (will be changed to welded spacer ASAP).
14) Replaced 4 tires (Michelin pilot Exalto PE2's)
15) Performed 4 wheel alignment
16) Replaced M5 badges from and rear and *in correct locations* 54/25/8mm
17) Replaced M badges on front seats as well as trimming drive cable housings for both headrest height adjustment mechanisms so cables will correctly engage and got them to function correctly.
18) New cluster bulbs.
19) Inspected pedal bracket for cracks-ok.
20) Reconnected the BL/GE wire to the plug housing on back of the cluster and got my OBC functions and CC working.
21) Calibrated OBC range display.
22) Flushed cooling system and refilled with 50/50 BMW coolant distilled water, replaced cooling system vent hoses, 4 way "t" and clamps (no clamps installed on the plastic "T")
23) Lubed and adjusted hood release mechanism
24) Replaced broken right front inside door release handle and bezel.
25) Replaced wiper blades and aimed nozzles.
26) Aimed headlights
27) Ran the car happily through the gears with a huge grin onto the 405 north to the 10 west to PCH north toward Mulholland.....

Took all the power window buttons out of my beater e30 and put them in the e28. Why? Because they all light up and in my e28 only the drivers window button was a lighted type.. Now I've got all 7 lighting up..
Cleaned all the mud out of wheel wells.. Couldn't believe how much there was, PO must've never cleaned it ever, there was that much caked in there! (Ive had car just a few weeks now)

Stole black interior door handle trim rings from e30 and put into e28 to replace beige ones. Exact same part..
