M30 turbo fueling

Post by E30Mastermind »

Im in the midst of turbocharging my car. I have everything i need mostly only thing I'm not seeming to find info on is the fuel system. Will the stock fuel pressure regulator and rail handle turbo setup? Im only planning to run 8-10psi max. I've got deka 80lb injectors but doubt i'll even use all of that. Not sure if i should get a nuke rail and a aftermarket FPR or if the stock one will work.

I’ve only done one turbo install but I’ll throw my .02c based on what you’ve written and because your 80# injectors caught my attention. Assuming this is an M30...

If you’re sticking to a stock ecu, you’re outside my wheelhouse but folks seem to use a rising rate fuel pressure regulator to add the extra fuel required under boost. That said, I don’t recall fuel rails being an issue with use of RRFPRs... instead, folks seem to add more powerful fuel pumps in that case.

If going standalone (mine runs on megasquirt) the stock fuel rail and stock pressure regulator seem to be fine. All fueling is adjusted through the software.

Which brings me to the 80# injectors. My kit came with Siemens 60# injectors and they are more than adequate at 1Bar. In fact, the 60# injectors are difficult to tune at idle because they are running a duty cycle just over 1% and the opening and closing times are a large portion of the time they are open. Said another way, they are so big that it becomes difficult to open them for a short enough time, accurately enough, for smooth, consistent idle mixtures.

30lb injectors and fmu if using stock ecu. 42lbers if standalone ecu.
