Greetings
just wondering if anyone has tried using the factory amplifier with an aftermarket head unit/speakers. I have such items and have run new speaker wire all the way to the back. I was just wondering if, bypassing the fader and wiring the new leads into the inputs of the factory amp and letting it power my new speakers would work.
thanks

Not worth it at all. most headunits put out better RMS. like an alpine pioneer jvc sony any good trusted brand. id say put a taramps or something like a 4 channel 50 watts a piece with some nice speakers. 4x6 in the front. 5.25 in the rear i could be wrong on the rear. but i have 6.5 infinty kappas in the back 4x6 kappas in the front. i tried doing that. i tried running off the amp. but no luck. its also not a constent 12v for the headunit. id say rewire and put a somewhat good amp headunit and speakers in. without a amp just a nice head unit. Trust me I TRIED everything to get away with it. but no cigar learned the hard way but car sounds good now. but you can do all that for under 250$
EDIT i cant read saw you had new speakers and wires. a modern amp alone would be amazing.

Re: factory amplifier
Thanks for responding,
I am trying to get as much without having to do too much cutting around, I got Kappa 4x6 in front and infinity reference 5.25 component in the back, Surprisingly the included tweeter fit the factory tweeter location in the rear so it looks pretty slick, (for some reason I hate the look of coaxs) I was just delivered a little taramps 90W palm pilot little baby amp to see what I can get out of the speakers. Apparently my head unit (Alpine iDA-x200) only pushes 16wRMS and 45wpeak.
Thanks for responding i wont even bother with the factory amp then.

what i did is i ran the wires under the carpet of the rear deck then under the backseat/carpet to a amp under my seat. or you can run in your trunk.
put it under my seat so didnt have to run the front all the way to the trunk so they all meet in the middle of the car.

Re: factory amplifier
I wonder the same thing but for different reasons - basically, is there any technical reason that some arbitrary aftermarket head unit can’t be wired to a factory amp? I have a period (ca. 1977) Blaupunkt Frankfurt that I want to put in my E12. Currently the car has a modern aftermarket unit that is ugly and don’t fit. I’d like something that looks right, and performance that is good enough is good enough. Sure, I could put a new Continental/VDO unit in there and it would be good enough and easier to wire, but I already have the Frankfurt. An amp would make it easier for me to wire 4 speakers to the 2-channel stereo output without cutting the power to each speaker in half from the head unit output level. Or so it seems.
